Welcome to FASTA HERDER, a web server to cull out redundant protein sequences from a FASTA file. FASTA HERDER works by finding and clustering together protein homologs in a FASTA file that have similar lengths.

The authors of FASTA HERDER are Caroline Louis-Jeune, Miguel A. Andrade-Navarro and Carol Perez-Iratxeta.

We acknowledge the developers of the external software that FASTA HERDER uses: the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology's Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics Group for the java library FASTA Validator, Wootton and Federhen for SEG, and the NCBI for the BLAST+ suite. We also acknowledge EMBL's Bork group for preparing the OrthoBench, a set of protein families that we used to benchmark FASTA HERDER.

For more information about the sever and running options see the supplement and help page.

If you have questions or suggestions, or if your FASTA file is too big to run in the server, please contact us.
